          David Walter Ackerman, Jr., age 74 of 805 High Vista Drive, Davenport, Florida formerly of 26055 Stull Road, Uhrichsville, Ohio 44683 died at 4:16 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 in the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburdale, Florida.

          Born September 5, 1942 in Wheeling, West Virginia; he was son of the late David Walter Ackerman, Sr. and Dorothea Louise Marshall Ackerman.

          He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1960 to 1963 in the Signal Corp in Frankfurt, Germany and Ft. Hood, Texas.

          David was a 1961 graduate of Freeport High School. He was a meat cutter for Frownfelters IGA, New Philadelphia for several years and a machinist for Warner Swasey, New Philadelphia. David also did appliance and television repair for several years. He attended Kent State University, Ohio State University, and Ohio University. He retired in 2005 from teaching thirty years on a Professional Teaching Certificate. He taught electronics at Belmont Harrison Vocational School.

          He attended the Westchester United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Freeport Masonic Lodge #491, and a fraternity at Ohio State University.

          Surviving is his wife, Linda Sue Overholt Ackerman. They were married December 27, 1961.

          Also surviving are three children: David (Rhonda) Scott Ackerman of Jefferson, Georgia, Linda Alicia Hall of Bolivar, Jill Lynn (Carl) Crawford of Brimfield; eight grandchildren: Jessica, Jaymie, Jeremy, Austin, Andrew, Kyle, Brendan, Joseph; seven great-grandchildren: Cadyn, Brextyn, Caydee, Jaylyn, Rylan, Carson, Jase; two great-grandchildren: Rileieh and Easton; and two sisters, Louann Boyd of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. Veda Lynn (Will Thacker) Ackerman of Zionsville, Indiana.

          Following David’s wishes he will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
