Mary Kathryn Taggart Deets, age 88, of Uhrichsville formerly of Freeport died peacefully surrounded by her family at 2:36 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2024 in Community Hospice Truman House of New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Born October 26, 1935 in Cadiz, Ohio; she was a daughter of the late James Dunlap Taggart and Adeline S. “Granny” Carter Taggart.
She was a 1953 graduate of Madison High School. On June 13, 1953, she married G.W. Bill Deets. He died March 19, 1997. She enjoyed helping on the family farm and cooking and canning vegetables for her family.
Surviving are four children: James Deets of Uhrichsville, David Deets of New Philadelphia, Eugene (Dody) Deets of Port Washington, and Barbara (Scott) Whalen of Strasburg; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Immel, Amy (Reid) Rummell, Tammy (Richard) Fisher, Athena (Paul) Russell, Brent (Tascha) Deets, Catrina Francis, Karie (Jeff) Dexter, Andy (Robin) Deets and Adam Deets; twenty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Winget; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Gagnon; a brother, William Taggart; a brother-in-law, John Winget; a granddaughter, Kimberly Immel and a grandson, Bradley Deets.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 in Koch Funeral Home, 244 North Walnut Street, Gnadenhutten, OH 44629.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 also in Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio.
