Elden Eugene Slack

Elden Eugene “Tracker” Slack, age 69 of 238 East Main Street, Freeport, Ohio died Friday, September 15, 2017 in Summa Health Systems Hospital in Akron, Ohio.

He was born July 6, 1948 in Syracuse, a son of the late John Orville Slack and Ada A. Blake Slack. As a young man he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

Gene worked for the Freeport Press, and drove truck for Nattress Trucking. He retired with a disability in 1988. He liked to play Poker, play games on the Internet, and watch sports on television, especially the   Cleveland Browns.

His wife, Candice M. Slack, died April 24, 2009. They were married in January 15, 1971.

Surviving are a son, Philip Michael (Jackie) Slack of Massillon; a daughter, Suzanne Denise (John) Howells of Freeport; four siblings: John Slack of Sandyville, Kathryn (Harley) Johnson of Pomeroy, Robert (Priscilla) Slack of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Lela Watkins of Florida; five grandchildren: Seth (Candace) Slack, Kandice (Dale) Snyder, Devan (Joe) Kimball, Emily (Darwin) Teets, and Skyler Nichols; three great-grandchildren: Nathan McBurney, Hailey Kimball, Calvin Slack; sister-in-law Lynn (Dick) Dunlap of Freeport, brother-in-law Mike (Patty) Peoples of Cadiz, a special friend, Matt Phipps of Freeport; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by two brother Earl Watkins and Roger Slack,

Gene’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport with friends and family at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 with Pastor Jim McConnell officiating.       

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Koch Funeral Home to help cover final expenses.
