Frederick Erwin Blair, age 85, of West Chester / Tippecanoe passed from this world into God’s arms at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in the Truman House Community Hospice, New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Fred was born October 12, 1933 in Rainelle, West Virginia. He was a son of the late Lazarus Hobart Blair and Mabel Adridge Patterson Blair.
He was a graduate of Rainelle High School in 1952. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country from 1953 to 1956. Fred worked for the Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Ohio for 38 ½ years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Philadelphia, a former member of the West Chester United Methodist Church, and the First United Methodist Church of Wauchula, Florida. Fred was an active volunteer for many years with various communities supplying food to the hungry. He belonged to the Ohio V8 Ford Club, drove the Gospel Hymns singers, volunteered at variety of church related volunteer ministries. He loved attending and teaching Sunday School.
Fred loved the outdoors, spending time at both of his properties: the log house in West Chester which was Fred and Carol’s dream home and following the sun to Arcadia, Florida in the winter.
His wife, Carol Jean Blair died May 18, 2011. They were married December 7, 1956.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Gary) Lancaster of Akron and Heidi Blair of Nashville, Tennessee; two granddaughters, Gabbi (Karac) Rooney of Lawton, Oklahoma and Brandi (Jason) Hall of Lawton, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Karac Rooney II, Alexandria Rooney, Dominic Lawson and Zackary Hall, all of Lawton, Oklahoma; a sister, Pathenia Gregory and a nephew, Tom (Judi) Gregory and their five children of Elyria; a close cousin, Gladys Houchins of Virginia; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Elmer Blair.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the First United Methodist Church, 201 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the church with Rev. Paul White officiating. A meal will be served in the church social hall following the service.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 12 in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport with Rev. Paul White officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to one of the above mentioned volunteer church or Sunday School programs or the Truman House Community Hospice.
