James Rice Pettay

James Rice Pettay, age 87, of 13742 Havendale Drive, Brook Park, Cuyahoga County, Ohio died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Northwestern Health Care Center, Berea, Ohio.

Born September 21, 1930 in Orlando, Florida, he was a son of the late William Alton Pettay and Martha Edith Williams Pettay.

James retired in 1997 from American Mail-Well Envelope Company of Cleveland. He was in management there for thirty-one years.

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He likes sports and computers.

His wife, Hazel Marie Rush Pettay, survives. They were married November 15, 1952.

Also surviving are three sons: Paul James Pettay of Brook Park, Gary David Pettay of Brook Park, and Phillip Alton Pettay of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Sara) Fenner of Canton; two brothers: Homer Pettay of Florida and Charles Pettay of Canton; three grandchildren: Jessica Marie Pettay, Jennifer Rachael Pettay, and Kenneth Christopher Pettay; and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Wyatt.

James was preceded in death by two brothers: Jean Pettay and William Pettay.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport with Pastor David Koch officiating. Online condolences may be made to the family on the funeral home’s website.
