Michael O. “Mike” Luyster, age 59, of St. Clairsville passed away at his home Tuesday, July 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer .
Born April 11, 1959 in Dennison he was the son of Alma Faye Smith Luyster (Ralph) Brill of Freeport and the late Roy O. Luyster. Mike graduated in 1977 from Lakeland High School and Belmont-Harrison JVS where he studied small engine repair. He was a truck driver for Smith Concrete in Cadiz for more than 20 years and prior to that had driven trucks for various area companies.
Mike was a member of the Harbor of Hope Church in St. Clairsville. He enjoyed boating, fishing, stock car racing and taking photos. He was also a talented woodworker who enjoyed sharing his gift with his family and friends. But what he loved most was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Betty M. Coulson Luyster whom he married November 24, 2001; children Melissa (Kevin) Hines of Barnesville, Joshua (Makenzie Ripley) Luyster of Bethesda, Bret (Mindy) Neilson of Holloway, Shawn Ware of Uniontown, Paula (Mark) Irwin and Aaron (Kathy) Neilson both of Holloway; a sister Karen (Phil) Ruffini of Dennison; granddaughters Kortnie, Evangelena and Averie and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, including Kyle (Jacqui) Neilson who lovingly helped with his care.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one of his bonus daughters, Amy Borosh.
Services will be held Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11 am in Koch Funeral Home, Freeport with Pastors Nikki Smithberger and Tim Forte officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.
