Ben Richard Gibson

Ben Richard Gibson, age 79, of 1765 North Water Street Extension, Uhrichsville Ohio 44683 died at 8:04 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Ohio's Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.

Born November 12, 1945, in Midvale, Ohio; a son of the late William Thomas Gibson and Ruth Lucille Patterson Gibson.

Ben was an auto mechanic for the Wainwright Junk Yard for numerous years. He also was an avid race car fan, racing his own car at Midvale Speedway in the figure eight races for many years, he also loved to watch wrestling matches. Ben enjoyed dressing as Santa and bringing smiles to kid's faces at Christmas time.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Doris Gibson; three children: Ben Matyas, Belinda Taggart, and Brenda Hines; two brothers: John Gibson and Robert Gibson, and a sister, Barbara Jones.

Surviving is a daughter, Ruth M. (Robert) Smith, three sons: Brad (Kelly) Matyas, Burt (Kelly) Lauterhieser, and Charles (Tammy) Barnes; a sister, Edith Toole; two brothers: Burrell Gibson and Bruce Gibson; several grandchildren, including Richard Taggart and Emma Adkins, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Following Ben's wishes, Koch Funeral Home of Freeport handled his cremation arrangements with no viewing and services. A memorial service will be held at the Christian Lighthouse Church in New Philadelphia at a later date. Online condolences may be made on their website at www.kochfuneralhome.net
