George Grafton Case, Jr. age 89 of New Philadelphia formerly of Jewett joined his beloved wife of 67 years, Sara, in their heavenly home at 5:19 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 from Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio.
Born September 13, 1926 in Adena, Harrison County, Ohio, he was a son of the late George Grafton Case, Sr. and Elizabeth Matilda Hennis Case.
George was a 1945 graduate of Adena High School. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran serving his country during the Europe Theater Operations from June 1945 to November 1946.
He was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad later known as the Norfolk & Western Railroad as a car inspector from 1951 to 1968. In 1972 he was employed as a route marker for the Ohio Department of Transportation and retired from there in 1989. George was a jack-of-all-trades and was very handy doing odd jobs.
George was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, a former member of the Jewett Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Dover Post # 3463 Veterans of Foreign War, a former member of the Adena American Legion, a former member of the Mt. Hope Grange, and the Freeport Farmers Sportsman Club. George and his wife lived in Peoria, Arizona from 1993 to 2000. In 2000 he became a resident of New Philadelphia, Ohio. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and doing jig-saw puzzles. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
His beloved wife of 67 years, Sara Elizabeth Trushell Case, died on April 10, 2016.
He is survived by a daughter: Rebecca Sue (Sam) Glasure of New Philadelphia; a son: George Randall (Sue) Case of Sherrodsville; five grandchildren: Paul (Diane) Skipper, Eric Skipper, Jamie (fiancée Traci Ross) Skipper, Greg (Carolyn) Case and Tim Case; seven great-grandchildren: Jordynn (fiancé Colby Mackinem) Skipper, Macen Skipper, Tre Lumley, Tia Divine, Gerald Case, Sabrina Case, and Grayson Skipper; three step-great-grandchildren: Jasmine (fiancé Jeff Nichols) Shifflet, George Armiger, and Michael Armiger; a great-great-granddaughter, Kennedy Mackinem; and a step-great-great-grandson, Grayson Nichols.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Benjamin Joseph Case; a granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Faye Skipper; two sisters: Margaret (Peg) Waligura and Ethel Pollock; and three brothers: Ralph Case, Paul Case, and Lewis Case.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 in Otterbein United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia with Pastor Jon Long officiating. Military rites conducted by the Dover Post #3463 Veterans of Foreign Wars will follow the service at the Otterbein United Methodist church. A procession and burial will then follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Visitation will be held in the church from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 and one hour prior to the time of the service on Saturday, May 7, 2016.
