Jane Catherine Murphy Tedrick, age 95, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Norris Road, Tippecanoe, Ohio died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Amberwood Manor Nursing Home, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
Born August 1, 1919 near Gilmore, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Murphy and Laura C. Wolf Murphy.
Jane graduated from Gnadenhutten High School as valedictorian in 1936. She married Fred William Tedrick on October 26, 1943. They lived in Navarre until they purchased a farm in Tippecanoe in 1951. Her husband, Fred, died on April 27, 2004. In 2006 Jane moved to New Philadelphia to live with her son, Rodney and his wife, Gay Tedrick.
Jane was a member of the Tippecanoe United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. She served in many capacities over the years and was known for baking up to as many as twenty pies for the famous church suppers. She served for many years on the Washington Township Election board as a precinct worker. In addition to gardening and canning, Jane enjoyed many hobbies over the years. She loved needlework, beadwork, and leather crafting, but her favorite hobby was keeping up with her five grandchildren and all their activities. She loved transporting, following, and supporting them in all their sports, music, farming, and church activities.
Surviving are two sons: Rodney C. (Gay) Tedrick of New Philadelphia and Roger C. Tedrick, of Winesburg; five grandchildren: Ryan (Peggy) Tedrick of Euclid, Rochelle Tedrick of Akron, Regina (Richard) Large of New Philadelphia, Lieutenant Scott Tedrick of Groton, Connecticut, and Sara (Anish) Parikh of Montclair, New Jersey; and five great-grandchildren: Aurora Tedrick, Madelyn Tedrick, Katelyn Tedrick, Cody Tedrick and Riley Large.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by a sister, June Tedrow and a brother, Harold Murphy.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 South High Street, Freeport with Pastor Dave Koch officiating. Burial will follow in West Union Cemetery near Gilmore. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jane's memory to the Tippecanoe United Methodist Church.
