John Cambridge Bardall, Jr., age 93, of 28080 Alexander Ridge Road, Freeport died peacefully at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Country View Assisted Living in Lore City.
He was born April 21, 1932, on his family's farm in Freeport township; and was a son of the late John Cambridge Bardall, Sr. and Ocie Dowler Bardall.
John grew up on the family farm and hauled milk before becoming custodian for thirty years at Lakeland High School where he also drove school bus and was the bus coordinator for many years. He was a 70-year member of the Freeport #415 Masonic Lodge and a member of the Cambridge Scottish Rite; was a member of the Freeport Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Freeport Sportsmen Club during his coon hunting days.
His wife, Katherine Joan McCoy Bardall, died April 12, 1993. They were married September 12, 1953.
Surviving are three sons: Bruce (Belinda) Bardall of Columbus, Bill (Lisa) Bardall of Shreve, and Ben (Stacey) Bardall of Freeport; a son-in-law, Jeffrey A. Matthews of Freeport; five grandchildren: Alicia (Kyle) Swires, Jared (Shelby) Bardall, Lauren (Tyler) Dougherty, Lindsey (Cody) Kiser, Zachary (Hannah) Matthews; six great-grandchildren: Braxton Swires, Ava Dougherty, Zoe Dougherty, Nolan Kiser, Everleigh Matthews and Cooper Matthews; a brother, Thomas (Marge) Bardall of Freeport; several nieces and nephews; and his many special friends at the assisted living home.
In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Joan Matthews on January 17, 2022; and five siblings: Newt Bardall, Elmer Bardall, Pete Bardall, Clara Stine, and Ruth Bayless.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 12, 2025, in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport followed by a procession to Greenmont Union Cemetery for a graveside service to begin at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor David Koch officiating. Burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made in his memory to Country View Assisted Living, 62825 County Home Road, Lore City, Ohio or Hospice of Guernsey.
