Lola Irene (Smith) Newman

Lola Irene Newman, age 85, of 35765 Deersville Road, Cadiz died at 8:34 p.m. Friday, January 08, 2016 in Acuity Specialty Hospital, Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio.

She was born September 1, 1930 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.

She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1947 then attended Fullerton College for two years. She worked in retail stores for numerous years. Irene was baptized in the Christian Church in California and was a member of the Brownsville Church near Deersville. She liked to quilt, knit, crochet, sew, and create her own designs.

Surviving is her husband of 38 years, James Arlen Newman. They were married February 2, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas.

Also surviving are five children: Lola of Topeka, Kansas, Gail of Phoenix, Arizona, Cynthia of Kingwood, Texas, Daniel of Benton, Kansas, Michael of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Todd Newman of Glenwood, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport with a services following beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Koch officiating.  Burial will follow Patterson Cemetery, Deersville.
