Lonnie Ray Denton, Sr.

Lonnie Ray Denton, Sr. age 84, of 61770 Range Road, Lore City, Guernsey County OH 43755 died peacefully at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell, Ohio where he had been a resident for three weeks.

Born December 13, 1941 in Knoxville, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Alfred Denton and Dora Bull.

He retired from Exxon Chemical Company in Summerville, South Carolina after working there thirty-five plus years.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and drag racing in his younger days. He was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Summerville, SC. Lonnie and his wife enjoyed gardening and landscaping which was evident by their beautiful landscaped lawn; but his pride and joy was spending time with his grandson, Dane.

Surviving is his wife, Dolores Mabel Green Denton. They were married August 14, 1962. After knowing each other for six weeks, they eloped.

Also surviving is a son, Lonnie Ray (Laura) Denton, Jr. of Piedmont; a grandson, Dane Denton of Salesville; a brother, David (Brenda) Denton of Richmond, Virginia; and two sisters: Alfreida (Kenny) Moore of Keyser, West Virginia and Judy (Bill) Brandt of Pasadena, Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Linda Denton of North Beach, Maryland; a niece Karen Olivier; a nephew Gary (Meredith) Olivier, Jr. both of Greer, South Carolina plus several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Lonnie, a brother Paul Denton, two sisters: Edna and Helen; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Olivier.

Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport, Ohio assisted the family with private viewing and transferring Lonnie to Dyal Funeral Home for burial in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville, South Carolina.
