Melinda June Ornouski, age 71, of Moorefield died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2024 after a short period of declining health in Lifecare Hospice in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio.
She was born April 20, 1953 in Geneva, Ohio; a daughter of the late Robert Samuel Taggart and Evelyn June Glover Taggart.
Melinda was a 1972 graduate of Lakeland High School. She was a hostess and waitress at Days Inn in St. Clairsville, Shenandoah Truck Stop near Old Washington, and Cadiz Country Club for many years. She was very talented baking cakes, catering and decorating for weddings, creating crafts and selling her crafts at craft shows, making flower arrangements and grave blankets. She also operated her own antique shop in Flushing, enjoyed cleaning houses for people. She catered the Piedmont Fishing Club banquet for many years.
She was a member of the Polish Club in Maynard. Melinda also enjoyed playing slot machines and working in her flower gardens. Her favorite thing was spending time with her children and grandchildren and her "Ya-Ya" girlfriends.
She is survived by her son, Rick Scott of Holloway and a daughter, Stephanie (Aaron) Sword of Lodi; three grandchildren: Hunter Scott, Easton Sword, and Tommy Sword; two great-grandchildren: Mila and Benson; a niece, Angie Hicks and her daughter, Makayla; and a nephew, Mike (Lori) Doane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dave Taggart.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, October 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Peggy Milliken officiating. Burial will follow in Moorefield Cemetery.
