Paul Ray Mallarnee, age 74, of 31945 Piedmont Freeport Road, Freeport died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at 11:41 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at home while tilling in his garden.

He was born September 4, 1943 in Harrison County; a son of the late Glenn Thurman Mallarnee and Edna Ruth McClintock Mallarnee.

Paul graduated from Lakeland High School. He worked for Sugardale Meats pumping hams, Republic Steel in maintenance, Cravat Coal in Holloway as a loader operator, R&F Coal Company in Cadiz and Ohio Coal as a heavy equipment operator, then he returned to R&F Coal of Cadiz as a supervisor and retired from there. After he retired he enjoyed repairing lawn mowers for people in the community. He had attended Piedmont United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Nancy Jane Wilson Mallarnee. They were married September 3, 1965. Also surviving are three daughters: Susan Arlene Cox of Cadiz, Ruth Ann Ridenour of New Philadelphia, and Connie Sue Gardner of Freeport; eight grandchildren: Glenn (Nicole), Alex, Jessica, Ashley, Shelby, Zachary (Jaymie), Courtney, and Nichole; five great-grandchildren: Andrew, Alivia, Shianne, Jaylyn, Caydee; and one great grandchild on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis James Ridenour; a brother, Darl; and a sister, Sharon.

Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S. High Street, Freeport. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, also in the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Dombroski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
