Violet Mae "Dee" Evans

Violet Mae “Dee” Rickey Evans, age 82, of Newcomerstown died peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:25 p.m. in the home of her daughter in Moorefield under Hospice care.

Born September 10, 1943, in Akron, Ohio; a daughter of the late Lester Dale Rickey and Lois Gertrude Parker Rickey.

Dee graduated from Garfield High School in Akron in 1961. She worked as a waitress a lot of years and volunteered for the Indian Valley FFA toy drive, was active with the Indian Valley Band Auxiliary and the Native Pioneer Days in Gnadenhutten. She was a die-hard Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Surviving is a daughter: Angela M. (James) Parcell of Moorefield; a son, Scott (Mickey) Koerber of Wright, Wyoming; eight grandchildren; five fur babies: Baby, Clint, Molly, Daisy, and Rain; and longtime friends, Terry Sprowl and Diana Keith.

Dee was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, Kenneth Evans, on July 21, 1997. They were married October 12, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a brother who died when she was 13 years old, Alfred O’Dell, and her fur baby, Abby.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2026, in Koch Funeral Home, Freeport. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in the funeral home with Pastor David Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery.
