Carol Jean (Stephens) Gossett

Carol Jean Gossett, age 71, of Freeport died unexpectedly at 2:45 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio.

Born May 19, 1951 in Barnesville, Ohio; a daughter of the late Paul Robert Stephens, Sr. and Eva Jeane Kutie Hannahs.

She was a 1969 graduate from Barnesville High School, she was in band and a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Kent State University, Stark Campus working toward a degree in art history.

Carol was a very good cook and baker, especially cherry pie; she was very artistic and was a spinner and weaver of natural fibers. She was a partner in the modified four-by-four truck pulling team with “Simply Business” and “Under Pressure.” She loved to watch NASCAR races, and enjoyed going to Midvale Speedway to watch the races.

Surviving is her husband of fifty-one years, David Jack Gossett. They were married March 26, 1971. Also surviving are four children: David Jack (Marty) Gossett of New Philadelphia, John David (Nikki) Gossett of Beloit, Jason Derek (Omega) Gossett of Uhrichsville; a daughter: Elizabeth Jean (Pat) McQuade of Nelsonville;  twelve grandchildren: D.J., Luke, Allie (Tim),  Carson, Alexa, Lauren, Mollie, Kamryn, Shelby, Cammer, Morghen, and Kylee; two brothers: Robbie (Jeannine) Stephens and Randy (Lisa) Stephens, both of New Philadelphia; and a sister, Jackie (Ed) Hannahs Scott of Fairpoint; two aunts, Ellie (Raymond) Purtiman of Freeport and Helen (Hank) Temple of Hendrysburg; her step-father, Jack (Mary Ellen) Hannahs of Barnesville; and her cats, Oscar and Bella.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High St., Freeport. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 22 with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
