Derald Amon Tipton, age 86, of 75055 Smyrna Road, Freeport died peacefully surrounded by family at 7:09 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 in the Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
He was born February 6, 1933 in Steubenville, Ohio; a son of the late Doyle Tipton and Lottie Mary Dorsey. Derald was a 1951 graduate of Hopedale High School, was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and was discharged in 1958. He moved to Smithfield and with his father established Tipton Service Station and ran it for 41 years, retiring December 31, 1998.
He was a member of the Freeport United Methodist church. Derald liked woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving is his wife of sixty-three years, Nancy Jane Busby Tipton. They were married September 15, 1956. Also surviving are three sons: Michael (Maddy) Tipton of Wadsworth, Ronald (Jan) Tipton of Toledo, and Gary (Jenny) Tipton of Orient; and four grandchildren: Corey Tipton, Claire Tipton, Garrett Tipton, and Trent Tipton.
Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2020 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport with the Reverend Paul Turner and Pastor Sandra Cappel officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Rumley Township, Jewett. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (two hours prior to the service) on Thursday in the funeral home.
