Francis George Nielsen

Francis George Nielsen, age 73, entered the Gates of Heaven on August 15, 2023 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Francis previously lived in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and was originally from Freeport, Ohio.

Francis was born May 27, 1950 in Dennison; the son of the late Jorgen and Alice Nielsen of Freeport, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Nielsen.

Francis attended Freeport Grade School and later Lakeland High School, where he was the manager of the basketball team. Francis graduated from Indian Valley North High School in 1972.

Francis was an avid fan of the Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians; and had a special interest in firefighting and fire engines.

Francis is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Michael Gibbons, of Columbus, Ohio, as well as his niece, Erin Gibbons, nephew Michael Gibbons, and special friends, Matt and Julie Ueltschy of Uhrichsville, Ohio and Michele Wayman of Port Washington, Ohio. He also leaves behind his favorite feline, Orphan Annie.

Viewing will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 in Koch Funeral Home, Freeport. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor David Koch. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport, Ohio.
