Kenneth Calvin “Cal” Mallarnee, age 76, of Deersville died peacefully at home on Sunday evening, June 20, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Born September 3, 1944 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late Marion Calvin Mallarnee and Lula Grace Cecil Mallarnee.

“Cool” Cal was a 1962 graduate of Lakeland High School, and led the Raiders basketball team to its best regular-season finish with a 19-1 record. He finished his career with 1,051 points and was named to the 1962 All-Ohio Team. He was inducted into the Harrison County High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

After graduation he went to work for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia and Columbus, Ohio. He retired from the airline in 2000 with 37 years of service and moved back home to Deersville where he drove school bus for the Harrison Hills School District for ten years. He loved both the job and the kids.

Cal enjoyed playing sports and was on various basketball, bowling, golf and softball leagues. He was an avid spectator of all sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavs. He also loved to deer hunt with his son, Mike, and a special group of friends.

Surviving is his wife of thirty-three years, Katharine E. (Carpenter) Mallarnee. They were married on May 28, 1988.

Also surviving is son, Michael Calvin (Patti) Mallarnee of Grove City, and daughter, Michelle (Toby) Ekers of Grove City; step-son, Robin (Sherri) Coccia of Pataskala; step-daughter, Dana (Kirk) Sigman of Pickerington; grandchildren: Michael Calvin, Cara, Kayla, Ashley, Nikki, Kat, Lauren, Kiefer, Karmen, Zella, and Zoey; great-grandchildren: Addison, Gwynni, and Adelyn; a brother and three sisters: Raymond Dale (Janet) Mallarnee of Deersville, Norma Jean (Robert) Dunn of Henderson, North Carolina, Beverly Ann (Allen) Rose of Mansfield, Carolyn Sue Frane of Fort Wayne, Indiana; many nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Darlene Ehmann of Grove City; and his best friend, Corky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Frane, a niece, and a nephew.

Friends may call to express their condolences from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the Deersville United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 26, 2021. A service will begin at noon with Pastor Mike Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Cemetery, Deersville, Ohio.
