Robert Samuel Taggart

Robert Samuel Taggart, age 91, of 75885 Taggart Road, Cadiz, (Moorefield) Ohio died peacefully surrounded by family at 6:59 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born March 20, 1930 in Harrison County, Ohio, a son of the late Samuel Hopkins Taggart and Margaret Melinda Howell Taggart.

He served in the U.S. Army 1948-1960 and 1969-1993. He retired in October of 1993 as a SSG / E6 from 660th Transportation Company in Cadiz, Ohio.

He was a welder for Consolidated Coal Company in Cadiz, then worked for the deep mines and retired from Osage #3 Mine in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Bob loved to garden, especially sunflowers, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He also liked taking his grandchildren fishing, riding in the parades in the army truck, and just spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn June Glover Taggart, on Wednesday, February 7, 2007.

Surviving are his daughter, Melinda June Ornouski of Moorefield; three grandchildren: Rick (Ty Phillips) Scott of Holloway, Angela Erichsen of Canton, Stephanie (Aaron) Sword of Lodi and Michael (Lori) Doane of Freeport; and six great-grandchildren: Hunter, Makayla, Easton, Tommy, Logan, Shawna; and a great-great granddaughter, Mila; and a brother, Edward Taggart of Mineral City.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert David Taggart on Saturday, December 7, 2019, a brother, William Taggart, and a special niece, Pam Doane.  

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport on Saturday October 23, 2021 with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Peggy Milligan officiating. Military graveside service and burial will follow in Moorefield Cemetery.
